Below are some guidelines on how to shave your dog.

• Know its temperament
Dogs have got very different temperaments that you need to take note of before you begin shaving. The temperament of your dog is what will define how it behaves when you are shaving it. In case your dog is the kind that is very jumpy and cannot settle down hen shaving, it is advisable that you sedate it before you begin the process. Get an oral medication from your vet to help in calming the dog when you are shaving.

• Prepare the dog
Before you begin the process of shaving, it is advisable that you prepare the hair by cleaning off all the dirt that may be attached to it. Check for any falling offs from the mat in order to have an easy time while shaving. Shaving your dog with mats on the hair may even destroy your clippers. After cleaning the hair, you should make sure that it is completely dried before you begin the shaving process.

• Begin shaving
After cleaning and drying out the dog’s hair, you can now start shaving. However, you should first place the dog on a table lying on an ideal position. Turn on the clipper and let it rest on the dog for minutes so that it can digest the sound and vibration.
